Support configurable Kafka consumer assignment strategy for SIP Logstash components

Customers need the ability to configure the Kafka consumer assignment strategy used by the following SIP Logstash components:

  • sip-audit-logstash
  • sip-iv-logstash
  • sip-search-logstash

When these pods restart, the associated Kafka consumer groups rebalance, temporarily interrupting log ingestion and generating operational alerts.

Current Limitation
IBM Engineering confirmed that the Kafka consumer rebalance protocol is not currently configurable in SIP. Supporting a different assignment strategy would require service-side product changes.

Requested Capability
Provide a supported configuration mechanism to select the Kafka consumer assignment strategy for SIP Logstash components, including support for:

  • partition.assignment.strategy=org.apache.kafka.clients.consumer.CooperativeStickyAssignor

Expected Outcome
Expose the Kafka consumer assignment strategy through a supported SIP configuration mechanism, with appropriate validation and documentation. This would allow customers to use cooperative rebalancing where compatible with the SIP and Kafka environment.
