Use temporary filename during file transfert on Unix and Windows

We use Connect Direct to transfert files between several systems to Open system and use IWA (IBM Workload Automation) with file watcher on target system to start automaticlly scripts when a file arrive. It work fine with small files but sometime we have problem with big files because the script to process data start before all the data arrived and we process only one part of the data ...

We have opened a ticket to know if possible to transfert the files on a temporary name and have an automatic rename when the tranferts have ended : TS019279122 . The answer is no : you have to code a runtask for each file/transfert to do that.

The request is to have a global option in Connect Direct to allow to transfert all files with a temporary name like : xxxxxx.tmp and a rename at the end of the transfert to remove the .tmp

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. After discussing with development, we believe, implementing this change does not align with broader roadmap. For that reason I am putting this as "Not under consideration" and we can revisit this once we see interest from more customers (via Voting or Comments)

I understand that this is not the answer you were expecting however if you have any additional feedback, thoughts or ideas, or if there is anything else I can do, please do not hesitate to reply to this message to continue the conversation. Appreciate your patience.

    Thanks,

    James

The most reliable solution here is to COPY the file to a temporary directory or file name and then use a RUN TASK to move/rename the file finally. This solution was suggested in the case. A lot of customers follow this approach.

Another solution would be script or small app (CLI, REST, AIJ, SDK) that scans the CD statistics for Copy Termination Records (CTRC). For each record found, check if a file was successfully received, then get its local name and move the file to a directory watched by the file watcher.

CDW never supported the C:E File Agent. Though it wouldn’t be difficult to implement staging.directory.

    Thanks,

    James
