Standardize SYSOPTS syntax for multi-environments

SYSOPTS syntax is written differently depending on the environment: Windows, i5/OS, z/OS, and UNIX.

Example on z/OS:

SYSOPTS = "DATATYPE(BINARY) XLATE(YES) STRIP.BLANKS(NO)"

Same example on UNIX:

sysopts=":datatype=binary:xlate=yes:pipe=yes:"

This involves delays and adds a degree of difficulty in the different operations of our multi-environment. We must keep in mind at all times what syntax to use.

What is your industry? Banking
How will this idea be used?

Unifying or standardizing the syntax of SYSOPTS will greatly help, in addition to speeding up and making more efficient the use of the product of the same operation in multiple environments, without the need to adapt or rewrite the operation again.

    Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM. I have reviewed it thoroughly with my team.

    Unfortunately we won't be able to accept this enhancement request however. The complexities of changing sysopts syntax across platforms would have the potential to negatively impact many existing customers. Those potential for negative impacts unfortunately outweigh the benefits that would come from standardizing everything. I do appreciate you opening this request however and would encourage you to use the tool moving forward if there are other enhancements that we should consider.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders
