Automation of In-Place Node Renames -- CDU/CDW

Various application teams are approaching us for Connect:Direct high availability architecture guidance and advice -- or have decided to strengthen their C:D architecture -- after initial software installation. This is resulting in hundreds of CDW and CDU node renames per year.

I've created scripts for execution of node renames, which are basically just an uninstall/reinstall, etc.. And while it works fine, we'd love for IBM to implement and support a process that performs an "in-place" node rename; one that performs the same work as we're currently doing, without the need to fully uninstall and reinstall the product using the alias name.

What is your industry? Non-Industry Specific
How will this idea be used?

To facilitate the automation of a Connect:Direct node name without fully uninstalling/reinstalling the product, in order to promote a more highly available CD architecture strategy.

Thank you for opening this enhancement request with us. I have reviewed it thoroughly with my team. Unfortunately we believe this would be very technically challenging to achieve and would likely introduce significant risks of damaged configurations across the distributed platforms it could be used on and causing outages. Because of that I must decline this request in an effort to ensure reliability. I would encourage you to continue to use the RFE tool to request enhancements in the future however.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders
