Allow for an upload of the CD export as text file for defining rules

Connect Direct Administration, File Agent Configuration:

There is no business justification for the time needed to rebuild a ser file should it ever become corrupt.

The File agent configuration has a nice feature to export to text. However the opposite feature (import from text) does not exist.

It would be extremely convenient to have this feature when using configuration files with more than 20 to 50 rules.

It would also allow to tweak the file if the processes are on a different location on a new server and thus allow a quick build of the .ser file, instead of having to go hunt the rules down one by one and make sure none got forgotten.

Thanks for your consideration

What is your industry? Financial Markets
How will this idea be used?

Using the export as file will allow to store a humanly readable list of rules.

From this list of rules you will be able with the load from text to create a .ser file applying those rules.

This is great in case the .ser file got corrupted (media corruption)

This would also help greatly in case the location of the processes changed on a server:

  • export as text
  • global replace of process location
  • upload from text to get the new .ser file setup.

    Chris:
This new feature needs to be made available in the stand alone version of
File Agent as well. Please advise. Thanks.

Thank you for your patience as we worked on this enhancement. I'm pleased to say that we were able to deliver the capability to export and import FA configurations with our latest v6.2 release. Note that the import capability will only be supported on v6.2 and newer versions however. This release introduces integrated File Agent to C:D which also brings a host of other much needed enhancements, many specifically targeted at File Agent. I'd strongly suggest pulling down the latest release to explore all of the new enhancements.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders

This really is a necessity... I have over 1000 rules and I need to modify each one of them due to a server change...

Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM.  I've reviewed this with my team and we are in agreement that this request is reasonable and would be beneficial to our broader customer base.  The method we'd use to improve FA administration may differ from what you've described, but we would like to simplify administration and updates to FA moving forward.  I will accepted this request as an uncommitted candidate and will look to add it to our roadmap moving forward.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Sanders
