Undertake housekeeping for all database tables

Under ICC database tuning, there is a comment that indicates that records need to be manually pruned from a number of tables:

  • The CC_PROCESS, CC_PROCESS_DVG, CC_FILE_TRANSFER, and CC_FILE_TRANSFER_DVG tables contain the summarized information for processes and file transfers. Thus, these tables can grow indefinitely. Schedule a time to purge these tables to keep the database performance at an acceptable level.

This was mentioned on case TS001933657 and came as a surprise to me, mainly because it was listed under 'tuning' rather than a  required regular activity.

Guidance from support gave some tips on how this could be implemented but the steps are extremely cumbersome. Our DBAs have advised that deleting records from tables as part of housekeeping is not a typical DBA task and that the application should do this. ICC has no utilities bundled that allow the rather complicated SQL commands to be built (date manipulation is required for instance)

ICC itself already has the bulk of this functionality built in as it house keeps other tables, hence it was a surprise that these were omitted. It almost feels like they were forgotten. It also has the relevant credentials to access the database and it would be much preferred if it built and ran the required SQL commands as part of the normal daily housekeeping. Exposing a maximum age for these records within ICC Systems Settings would be useful too.

What is your industry? Banking
How will this idea be used?

Remove need for every use of ICC to implement convoluted housekeeping for a few tables which they may not even be aware of.

Since IBM Sterling Control Center 6.1.1.1 was released, you are able to purge data from the CC_PROCESS, CC_PROCESS_DVG, CC_FILE_TRANSFER, and CC_FILE_TRANSFER_DVG tables, automatically, via an additional setting, like the one for event data.

For more details on this, see:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS4Q96_6.2.0/com.ibm.help.scc.doc/com.ibm.help.scc.troubleshoot.doc/scc_database_perf_data_volumes.html

Note Control Center is also able to automatically purge data from another summary table, ROLL_UP, if the engine property SUMMARY_TABLES_PURGE_ROLL_UP is added, with a value of TRUE. By default its value is FALSE. The same link above provides more details on this.
