Standardized Usable Data Export and Re-import Feature for Tenant Decommissioning, M&A, and Data Migration Scenarios

This feature aims to provide a standardized process for exporting tenant data in usable, structured formats (e.g., CSV, JSON, database dump), which can also be re-imported into existing tenants if needed. The current approach often results in unusable data dumps that hinder customers' ability to access historical transactions, especially during tenant decommissioning, mergers, acquisitions (M&A), or tenant separation scenarios (management buyouts) or onPremise migration scenarios into the cloud or vice-versa.

Why is it useful? Customers undergoing tenant decommissioning, M&A activities, or tenant separation require reliable access to their historical transaction data for compliance, audit, and operational continuity. This feature would enable a consistent and usable data export process, allowing customers to re-import data if needed, thus providing a seamless transition and reducing disruption.

Who would benefit from it?

  • Enterprise customers like Fujitsu during tenant decommissioning.
  • Clients involved in M&A activities who need to merge or separate tenant data.
  • Customers with regulatory obligations, such as GDPR and industry-specific requirements, that mandate long-term data retention and accessibility.

How should it work? The feature should include:

  • A standardized process for exporting tenant data in structured formats (CSV, JSON, database dump) ready for querying or importing.
  • Secure and compliant data transfer mechanisms, aligned with GDPR and other regulatory requirements like NIS2.
  • Options for re-importing the exported data into existing tenants, allowing customers to maintain data continuity during M&A or tenant separation scenarios.

This would not only enhance the usability of our service but also position IBM as a more competitive and compliant enterprise provider.
