Key Creation During Onboarding

Problem Statement

During SSP User  onboarding, users and administrators currently need to generate SSH key pairs in the SSH KeyStore before configuring User. 

This creates additional operational steps.

Common challenges include:

  • Manual key generation effort
  • Increased onboarding time
  •  

Proposed Enhancement

Provide built-in SSH key generation capability directly within the SSP onboarding workflow while creating user.

Suggested functionality:

  • Create SSH key pair during user creation
  • Support for RSA, ECDSA, and ED25519
  •

    Was going to submit an RFE along the same lines of replicating SFG Dashboard SSH User Identity Key functionality on SSP SFTP Forward Proxy so will add comment to existing request...

    When defining a SFTP link from SFG to connect directly to a target trading partner, SFG Dashboard Trading Partner SSH User Identity Key has the basic options to:

    • Create New User Identity Key Pair so the private key details are only stored in SFG

    • Check out the public key in different formats to then send to SFTP target trading partner

    • View key credentials without viewing the private key file

    When using SSP SFTP Forward Proxy to connect outbound to a target trading partner, a copy of the key pair used to connect out to the partner is stored within a SSP Local User Key Store.

    However, the basic functions on SFG Dashboard Trading Partner SSH User Identity Key are not available for SSP:

    • You cannot generate a key pair via SSPCM so it has to be generated elsewhere then imported so you are storing private key in more than one place

    • The SSP Local User Key Store does not provide an option to check out the public key to send to SFTP target trading partner so you have to store copies outside of SSP

    • When viewing an existing entry in a SSP Local User Key Store it displays the actual private key rather than key fingerprint and details

    Can the same type of functionality and user experience available on SFG Dashboard for Trading Partner SSH User Identity Key be available on SSP SFTP Forward Proxy
