Enabling Compatibility for HSM while FIPS mode turned on in application

Enabling FIPS mode is an industry-standard best practice and ensures the application’s compliance with established security guidelines. To further strengthen the security posture, integration with an HSM is recommended so that private keys are securely stored in an HSM device instead of the application database. However, currently the HSM integration does not function when FIPS mode is enabled in the application.

We request an enhancement to enable compatibility with HSM when FIPS mode is turned on so that customers can leverage both controls simultaneously for improved security.

    This RFE is productized and shipped as part of SSP 6.2.1.2 iFix02 release today.

    IBM plans to add support for Thales Luna HSM with FIPS 140‑2 compliance in IBM Sterling Secure Proxy (SSP). The enhancement is targeted for delivery as a fix pack in the SSP 6.2.1.x forward branch, with an indicative timeline of 2Q 2026 (targeting mid‑June).


    This capability will support FIPS 140‑2 only; FIPS 140‑3 is not included. Availability and scope are subject to change until officially released.
