Support multiple shipping groups in a single checkout promising API call

Component / API:

  • /promising/{tenantId}/v2/calculateCheckoutAssignments
  • /promising/{tenantId}/v2/calculateCheckoutAssignmentsUsingCosts

Current behavior: Both APIs mandate exactly one shippingGroupId per request (e.g. "shippingGroupId": "Free_Economy"). To obtain EDDs for multiple delivery options, the consuming application must issue one API call per shipping group.

Requested enhancement: Allow an array of shipping groups in a single request and return assignments/EDDs keyed per shipping group in one response. Example:

"shippingGroups": ["FREE_SHIPPING", "EXPRESS_SHIPPING", "NEXT_DAY"]

Response should return the calculated delivery date and assignment set for each requested group.

Business requirement / use case: On the View Cart page, the customer must see EDDs for all available shipping options side by side so they can compare and select. With the current one-group-per-call constraint, the application must fan out N parallel calls (one per shipping group) to populate the page, increasing latency, call volume, and orchestration complexity on a high-traffic page.

Business value:

  • Single round trip instead of N calls → lower cart-page latency and improved customer experience
  • Reduced promising-service load and integration complexity
