IBM Sterling Ideas

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

IBM is transforming its request for enhancement (RFE) process. The purpose of the transformation is to provide a more consistent experience for you to submit requests and to enable IBM product owners to respond to your requests more quickly. For more information click here.

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,
1. Post an idea
2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you
3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notifications on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Add ability to send e-mails from within a Portal activity

It would be beneficial to be able to send custom e-mails from within a PEM portal activity, as part of the workflow.  For example, when a task for a specific group is the next task to be executed, the activity could be coded to send an e-mail to the members of that groups letting them know.  Or once provisioning is done, the activity can be coded to send an e-mail notification to specific parties with specific details.

This could be accomplished either by having an e-mail dialog object to add to the activity, similar to the screen dialog object, or by using an API call.  In regards to the e-mail dialog object option, it would allow the design and layout of the e-mail to be done similar to the screen dialog, but would also include a method for supplying the subject and "To" e-mail addresses.

How will this idea be used?

It could be used to notify either partners or sponsors that they have an action they need to take, to send out information (such as the SFG URL, ports, etc.), or a status notification (.e.g. testing has been completed successfully).

There is now an API in PEM Standard that allows custom emails to be delivered.

The link provided details a manual way of sending an alert via the PEM Portal UI.  This enhancement request is about being able to send an automated notification from within a Portal activity, as part of the workflow.

There is currently a capability in PEM to send alerts to a partner.  Details on this can be found at: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSKPRS/com.ibm.help.pem.sponsor.tasks.doc/t_send_alert.html  When this alert goes to a partner (which can be an automated alert or in this case, an alert with free form text), they get an email notification.  I believe that they then need to log into PEM to view the alert.
