Support for running OpenTelemetry (OTLP) Java Agent on IBM Sterling Order Management on Cloud (OMoC)

We would like OMoC to support running the OpenTelemetry (OTLP) Java agent on workloads deployed on the cloud version of IBM Sterling Order Management. Currently, there is no supported way to run the OTLP Java agent within the managed OMoC environment.

This enhancement would enable:

• Standard OpenTelemetry‑based instrumentation for JVM services running in OMoC

• Publishing application telemetry (traces, metrics, logs) to external observability platforms via OTLP

• Consistent visibility and diagnostics across on‑prem and cloud deployments where OTEL is already used

• Reduced need for custom instrumentation or unsupported configuration changesRequest:Please provide a supported mechanism to:

• Enable the OpenTelemetry Java agent for Sterling OMS services running on OMoC• Configure OTLP endpoints and required properties

• Ensure the agent persists across OMoC updates and is compatible with OMoC’s runtime model

What is your industry? Retail
How will this idea be used?

This support will allow standardized enterprise observability, reduce operational overhead, and align OMoC workloads with the organization’s existing telemetry strategy, which is based on OTLP and OpenTelemetry.
