Request for Product Enhancement – Demand Date Update Without Unscheduling Orders

Dear team,

I am writing to formally request a product enhancement based on our recent experience with PMR TS018501738, which exposed a limitation in the way Sterling OMS handles updates to demand dates when the order delivery date changes.

Context of the Request

In Sterling OMS, when an order is created, demand entries are generated according to the specified delivery date. However, if that delivery date is modified (for example, due to a change in the time slot requested by the customer), the associated demand ship date (DEMAND_SHIP_DATE in the YFS_INVENTORY_DEMAND table) does not automatically update to reflect the change.

This results in discrepancies between the planned inventory consumption and the actual delivery date. For example, an order originally planned for February 15th but later changed to February 20th would still generate demand for the 15th—misrepresenting the real stock need on the 20th and potentially causing shortages or over-allocations.

IBM Support's Response

As per the response provided in PMR TS018501738, the recommended solution involves the following steps:

Unscheduling the order via the unScheduleOrder API

Modifying the delivery date using changeOrder (with the new ReqDeliveryDate)

Rescheduling the order

IBM support has tested and validated this workaround, providing XML examples showing how ReserveItemInventory, createOrder, and changeOrder APIs can be used to achieve the update. While technically effective, this process introduces operational complexity and is not suitable for environments with high order volumes or for orders already in a released state.

Request for Improvement

We would like to formally request a product enhancement to allow the demand ship date to be updated without requiring the order to be unscheduled and rescheduled.

Thank you very much for considering this request.

We remain available to provide any further business context, use case examples, or technical inputs that may assist in evaluating this enhancement.

Kind regards,
Matteo Mottola
