The further into the future the available stock is, the less certain it is that it will arrive on time. We want to set safety stock rules based on the future availability date so that we don't expose more stock with less risk, and less stock with high risk of order cancellation.
Example
Available later this week rule: If future date is <7 days, 10% safety stock
Available Next week rule: if future date is >7days by <14 days apply 50% safety stock
Available in the future: if future date is >14days apply 100% safety stock

How will this idea be used?
As a eCommerce Operations specialist I know future availability is unreliable I want to set safety stock rules based on the future available date So that I can promise our consumers more inventory when the future available date is certain, and less when the future available date is uncertain. |
