Provide a native Inventory Visibility capability to export stock position and supply events as scheduled CSV/flat files in addition to event streams, enabling Data Lake, Databricks, O9, analytics, and reconciliation use cases.

Why is it useful?

IBM Sterling Intelligent Promising Inventory Visibility currently publishes inventory and supply updates as events. While event-driven integration works well for real-time consumers, many enterprise customers also require periodic file-based extracts for downstream analytical and planning platforms.

Today, customers typically need to build custom solutions to:

  • Consume inventory events
  • Aggregate and persist them
  • Generate CSV files
  • Deliver files to Data Lakes, Databricks, O9, Snowflake, Azure Data Lake, SAP BW, and other reporting platforms

This creates additional implementation effort, operational overhead, and reconciliation complexity.

Proposed Enhancement

Introduce a native capability within Inventory Visibility to generate inventory position and supply event exports as CSV (or configurable flat file formats).

The solution should support:

  • Scheduled exports (hourly, daily, custom frequency)
  • Incremental exports based on event timestamps
  • Full snapshot exports
  • Delivery to:
    • SFTP
    • IBM Cloud Object Storage
    • AWS S3
    • Azure Blob Storage / Data Lake
  • Configurable file naming conventions
  • Compression support (ZIP/GZIP)

Example Data Elements

The export should include inventory and supply attributes already available through Inventory Visibility events, such as:

  • Item ID
  • Product ID
  • Location ID
  • Supply Type
  • Quantity
  • Available Quantity
  • Reserved Quantity
  • Event Type
  • Event Timestamp
  • Inventory Status
  • Supply Source
  • Supply Destination
  • Transaction Reference

Business Benefits

Analytics and Data Platforms

Many organizations use Data Lakes, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, and similar platforms as their enterprise source of truth. Native exports simplify data ingestion and reduce custom integration effort.

Planning Systems

Planning platforms such as O9, Blue Yonder, Kinaxis, and SAP IBP frequently use periodic file ingestion. Native exports would accelerate integration with these platforms.

Reconciliation and Audit

Organizations often need to reconcile:

  • Inventory Visibility stock positions
  • OMS inventory
  • ERP inventory
  • Warehouse inventory

A scheduled CSV export provides an immutable point-in-time view that supports reconciliation, operational investigations, and audit requirements.

Reduced Total Cost of Ownership

Customers would eliminate the need to build and maintain custom event consumers, databases, aggregation services, and file generation jobs.

Expected Outcome

Customers should be able to configure Inventory Visibility to automatically generate and deliver inventory position or supply event files without building custom middleware, making Inventory Visibility easier to integrate with enterprise analytics, planning, and reconciliation solutions.
