Show number of records for Block-Mode-Transfers

This Enhancement Request is created following Case TS011846040 (Wrong Statistic Records in File Transfer between C:D for z/OS and C:D for UNIX)

The problem is that the number of records is shown as 0 on the sending side in the Statistics for a transfer which is done in Block-mode:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

From ( Pnode
Dsn=>PBOP.TV.WTL.WTVUL001.D1#.SYSREC.G0089V00)
DCB => LRECL =>
00042 BLKSIZE => 32760 RECFM => FB DSORG => PS
Mgd => YES DSNTYPE => BASIC
DISP=> (S, , )
recs =>
0 blks => 14,178
Bytes Read =>
464,461,872
Bytes Sent => 89,957,109
...
To ( Snode
Dsn=>pkvd_20230126.csv)
DCB => LRECL => 00042 BLKSIZE => 32760 RECFM => FB DSORG => PS
Mgd => ?
DISP=> (R, , )
recs =>
11,058,616 blks => 14,178
Bytes Written => 475,520,488
Bytes Received=> 89,475,415
--------------------------------------------------------------------

If the RECFM is FB then it is easy to calculate the number fo records from only two informations available on the sending side; the "LRECL" and the "Bytes Read". For the example above you divide 464,461,872 by 00042 which is 11,058,616 - that is exact the number of records shown on the receiving side.

What is your industry? Banking
How will this idea be used?

The number of records is required by people reviewing transfers from time to time. They are complaining about the number of records being 0.

    Thank you for opening this request with us. We have tried to contact you for more details, but unfortunately have not received a response. Hence we assume that this enhancement is no longer needed and close this out as declined, but please don't hesitate to use the tool in the future if you have other ideas we should consider.

    Thanks,

    Product Management Team.

    Hi,

    After further discussing this with Development team, here is the summary:

    • CDW does not support block mode; only CDU does.

    • When a block mode transfer to CDU occurs, CDZ will report the record count reported to it by CDU.

    Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Product Management

    Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. We truly value our relationship with you and appreciate your willingness to share your suggestions and ideas.

    We have completed our first review and would further need to discuss with CD Unix developmene team in coming weeks and be able to get back with a response (as this involves CDz to CDU transfer) Appreciate your patience.

    Thanks,

    Product Management
