In Connect Direct z/OS Processes a recent NF Apar allowed to check Variables 

IF (&TEST EQ C'NO') THEN ..

 

But this is limited to 8 char according to our findings in PMR 

"The description should have noted that when using &variable format, the value must still conform to the 8 character limit since the IF statement is evaluating it as if it were a LABEL."

 

This restriction should be removed  to e.g. allow to check a 44char dataset-name.

    Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM.  I've reviewed this with my team and we are in agreement that adding support for more than 8 characters would be beneficial.   I will accepted this request as an uncommitted candidate and will look to add it to our roadmap moving forward.
