Adapt Connect:Direct to the removal of "clientAuth EKU" from Public TLS certificat

By February 2027, public certificate authorities (CAs) will stop supporting TLS client authentication due to Chrome’s new root program rules, this will impact all customers which have enabled "Require Client Authentication" in the C:D protocol Secure+ configuration.  Partners whom renew their Public CA won't be able to connect anymore as their TLS certificate will be missing the clientAuth EKU.

Removing the "require client authentication" setting is not an option.  Additionally the options Public CA providers like DigiCert propose are very expensive, so will most probably not be accepted by partners.

C:D should adapt to this change in Public CAs like other products do.  For example the EKU “purpose” check will be ignored for the leaf certificate during verification. Only the EKU mismatch check will be bypassed – mTLS connection will continue to work with "Require Client Authentication" enabled if the certificate is otherwise valid and trusted.

CD Unix / Windows already supports the request if client cert missing in the Public CA signed cert.

    Hi Anne,

What CD platform is the request for ? Unix or Windows or z/OS ?

CD Unix and Windows already supports it. CD z/OS work is in progress.

    Thanks,

    James
