Setting date parameter in the filename

My company send hundreds of reports to our customers on a daily basis. When trying to schedule this within ConnectDirect we found we were unable to set the filename mask to use a date other then today.

All of our reports are dated yesterday, as they contain report data for yesterday. (daily_report_YYYYMMDD where YYYYMMDD = SYSDATE-1). There seems to be no option to allow for this within ConnectDirect at present.

The only option we've been given is to write our own scripts to schedule this. The ability to parameterise the date used by %SUBDATE would mean that we can set everything up in one place, rather than rely on multiple scripts and Scheduled Tasks to transmit our reports.

What is your industry? Banking
How will this idea be used?

On a daily basis, we send out hundreds of reports. They are all dated with the date that the report covers. So each morning we send reports dated daily_report_YYYYMMDD.txt where YYYYMMDD is yesterday (SYSDATE -1).

This seems like a feature/facility that a file transfer utility should have, just a parameter that can be set and used when calculating %SUBDATE.

    Hi

I guess I see this as an optional parameter for those that want to use it, that way it won't affect anyone if they don't change anything, but have the option to use it if they so desire.

So, if a value is passed/entered it uses that to calculate SYSDATE-%P, otherwise, it uses SYSDATE-0.

Thank you for the continued dialogue though, I really appreciate that I can speak directly to you :-)

    Hi Daniel,

Apologies for not keeping up with your expectations to address this change request. Even if the change to address this use-case is simple, we have to keep in mind other users who understand the current behavior and might be impacted by the change. Moreover as you pointed out we prioritize the changes requested by more number of customers, hence cannot work on this in near-term. However if we see interest in this change by other customers (based on their voting) we are open to reconsider this.

Once again, sorry for not being able to address this and appreciate your patience.

    Regards,

    Product Management

    Thanks for the update.

It's a shame that it's not being considered, as it seems a simple enough update to make, (only a couple lines of code by my reckoning, instead of "date=sysdate" use "date=sysdate- <DaysToSubtract>"), but I understand that if no-one else has asked for it, you don't want to do it.

We're writing another app to sit in-front of Connect:Direct to pass in the dates as we need them.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. We appreciate your willingness to share details about your experience and your recommendations. After careful review of your request, we are not considering making this change to the product as this is not a common requirement however we suggest the below option:

    • Pass the YYYYMMDD value in a symbolic variable into the process on the submit command [possibly via a script]

We will also be reviweing this request in future based on the interest from other customers. Meanwhile if you have any additional feedback, thoughts or ideas, or if there is anything else I can do, please do not hesitate to reply to this message to continue the conversation. Appreciate your patience.

    Thanks,

    Product Management
