To permit use wildcards in netmap

To permit use wildcards in netmap will be very useful in installations with hundreds of servers with similar naming.


Installations are moving to cloud infraestructure and the number of virtual servers are growing up. So you can work today with 20 servers named IBMSERVERCLOUD000 to IBMSERVERCLOUD099 and in few days you need to add more servers from IBMSERVERCLOUD100 to IBMSERVERCLOUD599.

The idea is that netmap can work with IBMSERVERCLOUD*** in order to reduce administration effort and to avoid large netmap file.

    We disagree with this argument.

    Security policies of a file transfer services are the responsibility of the customers. The software must allow granular security and allow the customers to adopt a more or less restrictive policy.

    It doesn't make sense to work with a netmap with thousands of entries. This is anti-performance and CD is forcing, AGAIN, customers to increase their ongoing efforts.

    Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM. I have thoroughly review it with my team. Unfortunately we cannot support wildcard entries in the netmap. The netmap functions as the phone book for Connect:Direct and allowing wildcards to make them more generic would have unintended downstream consequences especially related to security. Because of that we won't be able to accept this request, but I would encourage you to open future enhancement requests if you think of other things we should consider.
