IBM Sterling Ideas
Shape the future of IBM!
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Post your ideas
IBM is transforming its request for enhancement (RFE) process. The purpose of the transformation is to provide a more consistent experience for you to submit requests and to enable IBM product owners to respond to your requests more quickly. For more information click here.
Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you, 1. Post an idea 2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you 3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea
Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests
The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.
Receive notifications on the decision
Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.
We would like to create a very dynamic approach for the definition of file agent rules using the "monitor subdirecctory feature" and a model for subdirectory structures containing the cdp process file name.
What is your industry? | Insurance |
How will this idea be used?
Our file system has the structure
.../out/FileTransferID1 ../out/FileTransferID2 ../out/FileTransferID3
These could be real directories or symbolic links to application data locations. The rule defines to traverse from .../out including all sub-directories. In the "process arguments" a lot of arguments can be used. One defines a reference to "FileTransferID" section of the path. If the same arguments could be used in "process name" the name of the cdp process file will be indirectly defined by the sub-directory structure. As a consequence the File Agent rule definition does not need to be touched if a new directory is introduced or removed. This follows a clear segregation of duties: - definition of directory structures and applying correct permissions and symbolic links: System Admins - definition of cdp files and FA rules: Connect:Direct expert
In the consequence the rare resources of CD Experts can be protected. |

Thank you for your patience as we reviewed this request a bit further internally. Our dev and support members were able to synch up on your previous case and believe they understand the request better now.
I'm pleased to say that we believe it will be possible to add substitution variables to the process name field in File Agent to allow arguments to be passed to reduce the number of rules that would need to be created. I am accepting this request as an uncommitted candidate and will look to add it to the roadmap moving forward.
Sincerely,
Chris Sanders

Sorry - either you tell me how to meet the needs or not. I am not going to explain it to support again and again.
Thank you for opening this enhancement request with IBM. I have reviewed this request with my team and we believe it may be possible to meet your needs with existing File Agent capabilities.
I'd like to ask that you open a case with our support team with a reference to this enhancement request. They will likely need to take a look at your FA configuration and may be able to provide suggestions that will resolve this issue. If they cannot resolve this issue I'd like to ask that you direct them to me to provide some additional context on what your needs are and what gaps exist.
Sincerely,
Chris Sanders
