Clients actively use unlocode locations in traces. Those were implemented over 2 years ago by IBM, covering the list of locations that act as ports registered by the UN, in its unlocode list. The reason behind it is because ports do not belong to any single organization in the ecosystem and as such they shouldn't be registered by the organizations (associated to their company prefixes). This approach would also generate a lot of replication of data and complexity on traces.

We are currently able to upload events containing unlocode locations using the 3 available sytaxes listed below:

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:ext:loc:<unlocode>.import

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:ext:loc:<unlocode>.export

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:loc:<unlocode>

However the unlocode its not in itself a list of ports, its a list of locations. And each location serves certain functions. Those functions are specificed in the list itself by numbers.

Port function is represented by the number 1.

Airport function is represented by the number 4.

We are currently seeing traces from clients where the goods have been moved via airfreight. As the unlocode list also covers this, we would like to be able to differentiate when a certain location is being used as a port or airport (or another function).

Suggestion: This could look like this:

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:ext:function:loc:<unlocode>.import.<function_number>

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:ext:function:loc:<unlocode>.export.<function_number>

    urn:ibm:ift:location:unlocode:function:loc:<unlocode>.<function_number>
