REST APIs for Business Process Discovery

Organizations running large IBM Sterling B2B Integrator (B2Bi) environments often manage hundreds or thousands of Business Processes (BPs). In our environment, we maintain over 1,000 Business Processes, making it challenging to determine:

  • Which BP is assigned to which BP Queue (Q1–Q9)

  • Which BPs are still using the default queue

  • Which BPs are configured for higher-priority processing

  • Which BP definitions contain specific services, adapters, participants, schedules, or custom tags

  • Which BPs require tuning, optimization, or remediation

Currently, administrators must export BP definitions manually and perform offline analysis of XML files or database queries. This process is time-consuming, error-prone, and difficult to automate at scale.

Proposed Enhancement

Introduce a comprehensive set of REST APIs within IBM Sterling B2Bi that provide metadata-level access to Business Processes, similar to the REST capabilities available in IBM Sterling Secure Proxy (SSP).

What is your industry? Banking
How will this idea be used?

Large enterprises operating B2Bi environments need API-driven visibility into BP configurations and queue assignments. Providing REST-based discovery and metadata APIs would significantly improve administration, governance, performance tuning, and automation capabilities while reducing the need for custom scripts, direct database access, or manual exports.

Expected Outcome: Faster administration, improved queue management, simplified reporting, reduced operational overhead, and enhanced automation across large-scale B2Bi deployments.
