Rollback Capability Without DB GRP Dependency

Problem Statement

Current rollback procedures for Sterling B2B Integrator upgrades are heavily dependent on database restoration and full backup recovery GRP processes. In enterprise environments, database rollback activities are often complex, time-consuming, and involve coordination across multiple teams.

This creates several operational challenges:

  • Extended outage windows during failed upgrades
  • High rollback complexity
  • Increased risk during production changes
  • Longer recovery times
  • Dependency on DBA teams
  • Difficulty performing rapid rollback validation

Proposed Enhancement

Introduce a built-in application-level rollback capability that minimizes or eliminates dependency on full database restoration for supported upgrade scenarios.

Possible implementation ideas:

  • Versioned application snapshots
  • Configuration state checkpointing
  • Schema compatibility preservation
  • Incremental rollback packages
  • Automated pre-upgrade recovery points
  • Selective rollback of binaries/configuration
  • Rollback wizard integrated into installer/upgrade manager

Expected Features

  • One-click rollback option
  • Automated validation before rollback
  • Rollback compatibility checks
  • Preservation of runtime configurations
  • Minimal downtime recovery
  • Audit logging of rollback actions

Benefits

  • Faster recovery from failed upgrades
  • Reduced production risk
  • Simplified change management
  • Lower operational dependency on DB teams
  • Improved customer confidence during upgrades
  • Reduced maintenance window duration

Business Value

This capability would greatly improve operational resilience and make Sterling B2B Integrator upgrades safer and easier for enterprise customers.

I regret that I have but one vote to give. This would be amazing.
