CreateNewAS2Relationship API - Improve performance of the API to match that of previous versions using shell script / BP approach

RFE: CreateNewAS2Relationship API

Improve performance of the API to match that of previous versions.

There was a security fix (IT40683) implemented in B2Bi v6.0.3.7 that was merged up through v6.1.1.3, then v6.1.2.2 impacting AS2 Relationships API “/CreateNewAS2Relationship”.

In patches before the fix, the execution time for the API was ~5 seconds (untuned). After the fix, the execution time exceeds 2 minutes (after tuning with L3). This is having a high impact on the integrated applications we have built that rely on these APIs.

IBM have stated that it is not technically possible to improve the performance of the API without sacrificing security.

Executing this same action manually through the /dashboard user interface is not impacted by the performance degradation and is completing within ~5 seconds. IBM have stated that this UI code is not impacted by the vulnerability which IT40683 addressed.

We are currently implementing a crude workaround which uses shell scripts to interact with the dashboard (via a BP/CLA2), so that we can use the faster implementation than the API provides, and required by our business. WE expose our BP as a custom API running on an HTTP Server Adapter. In total our BP is completing within 5 seconds.

While working, we are conscious that the shell scripts will be impacted by any potential changes to the UI, and is not a best-practice method.

If the API code cannot be optimised, we request an enhancement so that we can create the AS2 Trading Partner Relationship through a business process without having to rely on custom shell-scripts. This should invoke the same code path as used by the /dashboard interface (not the code used by the API). For example, by making available an XAPI which can be invoked using the XAPI Service.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. Your request may not be delivered within the release currently under development, but the theme aligns with our current roadmap and, as such, is being tagged for future consideration. IBM may consider and evaluate any community feedback for your request through activities such as voting and we may reach out to you about this request to discuss additional details with you in the future.

We truly value our relationship with you and appreciate your willingness to share details about your experience, your recommendations, and ideas.

We do have the "BP as a Service" feature available in 6.2.0.0, which allows you to expose a BP as a REST API that can be invoked programmatically. If you have an AS2 BP currently that performs the way you want, this would be an option to leverage in the near-term before we can look at optimizing the API in a future release. https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/b2b-integrator/6.2.0?topic=processes-business-process-as-service-bpaas
